The Interface & Performance business line of Evonik has introduced AROSURF® PA 780, a new debonder for use in fluff pulp manufacturing that raises the bar in debonder absorbency, significantly minimizing its impact on fluff pulp absorbency and ultimate capacity. The result is superior absorbency in such demanding end products as baby diapers, feminine hygiene pads and airlaid absorbent products.
AROSURF® PA 780 is a blend of nonionic and cationic surfactants, a highly effective debonder despite a reduced cationic content. AROSURF® PA 780 provides a superior initial and ultimate capacity index to fluff pulp. Fluff pulp treated with AROSURF® PA 780 has been found to have a 25% greater absorbency rate than fluff pulp treated with a competitive product.
AROSURF® PA 780 is easy to handle and VOC-free, with a National Fire Prevention Association health rating of 1. Other benefits include 99% actives content, high substantivity to fibers, a very high flash point (>121ºC), and a pH range of 5-7. Thorough mixing and agitation of the new debonder in the wet end ensures uniform contact and performance. AROSURF® PA 780 fluff pulp debonder can be applied as a low-solids dispersion into stock chests or suction pumps or through continuous inline mixing of the concentrate pumped from storage.
AROSURF® PA 780 fluff pulp debonder conforms to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's 21 CFR 176.170 and 21 CFR 176.180, which regulate components of paper and paperboard in contact with aqueous and fatty food blends. It also conforms to Germany's Federal Institute for Risk Assessment's BfR Recommendation XXXVI regulating components of paper and paperboard in contact with food. In addition, it is listed on chemical inventories for the U.S. (TSCA), Europe (EINECS), Canada (DSL), Australia (AICS), Japan (ENCS), the Philippines (PICCS), Korea (ECL), and the People's Republic of China. Available in bulk, totes and 55 gallon drums from Evonik's Janesville, Wisconsin, production plant, it can be stored in original sealed containers at room temperature for 12 months.
